Garden to Table is back for 2016. This term the Tuakana and Rapu teams are both in action. Rooms 1-6, 12 and 23 will be exploring the garden and learning new skills in the kitchen. In the garden the students are learning about when and how to plant seeds, as well as making and managing the compost. In the kitchen the students are starting off with learning good food hygiene practices such as how and where to store food and how to stop germs in the kitchen.
Room 1 says that they had fun learning about how to store food in the kitchen. They discussed the temperatures of the room, cupboard, fridge and freezer and thought about how microorganisms don’t grow well if they are too cold!
Room 2 was using the mimio to demonstrate where food should be stored on shelves. They moved different produce around to position it where it should sit in a fridge or pantry.
